DEEMI search aircraft and ground search teams were in the Auburn area almost daily during a three-week period looking for 5-year old Valerio McFarland, who along with his 9-year old brother, fell into the Androscoggin River on April 24, 2018 and were swept away. Valerio's body was discovered by a search kayaker 5-miles downstream on May 14. DEEMI SAR searched the Kenduskeag River downtown and near the confluence of the Penobscot River in Bangor, Maine, Friday afternoon, March 2, 2018, looking for 22yo Peter Manuel who was seen entering the Kenduskeag about 01:00 am this morning. Update 04-17-18, Since his disappearance, we continue to search the Penobscot River from the Sea Dog downstream, all the way to Bucksport with binocular ground teams, aircraft and drones. Update 04-03-18, DEEMI search aircraft was up today taking imagery from Bangor to Fort Point Lighthouse in Stockton Springs.
Ground search teams and UAV are back at Waldo Mountain in Frankfort today, 03/05/18, continuing our long search for the downed Citabria plane missing since May 2, 1972 and piloted by Lewis "Billy" Hogan Jr, after receiving new information from another witness. At the request of the family, DEEMI initiated intense searches in the Pistol Lakes region for Father Clement Thibodeau of Caribou, Maine, after he went missing on July 15, 2017. Over a 2-month period, DEEMI volunteers searched by airplane, drone, automobile, and 4-wheel drive vehicles in an expansive area south of Springfield and Lee. DEEMI's search area was defined from obtaining cell phone ping data and analysis of that data. On September 30, an independent person conducting a logging operation, found Clement's vehicle backed into a wooded area off a narrow gravel road, and summoned authorities who found his body nearby.
On December 2, 2016, Paul Francis III, aka 'Junebug', disappeared after his shift as a cook at a local pub and reported missing on December 4. Mr. Francis' family asked DEEMI Search & Rescue for their help in locating their missing family member. Based on available data from local and state sources, DEEMI conducted a number of searches focused mostly along the Kenduskeag Stream and the Penobscot River. Other search areas included University Forest, Orono and a wooded area near the Old Town municipal airport. On January 25, 2017, a male body found in the Penobscot River downstream in Bucksport, was confirmed to be that of Junebug.
